Mistake 2: “I can google it“ or „I know someone who knows“

a.    People very much underestimate the complexities and dynamics of the matter.

b.    While it is a given to hire a (tax-) accountant, a lawyer, even an interior designer to deal with those complexities adequately and in a professional manner, we very often observe that it seems okay to pretty much rely on google, to address the crucial questions of how the own parents could spend the last years of their lives and how they are cared for.

c.    Often relatives or friends and acquaintances, especially if they are medical doctors or work in related fields like insurance or Medicare, are asked for advice.

As sensible and important this is; usually only some aspects are addressed. A thorough and complete assessment is accomplished almost never.
